Timeborne is a captivating and well-written fantasy romance novel by Sarah Samuels. The book starts featuring Olivia who is 10 at the time and witnesses unusual death of her mother. Forward in time, she is now living with her call father and her father who seems to have got a little bit crazy. One day she is called upon by her father and is been told that she is born in darkness, under the shadow of a full moon during a solar eclipse, with a mysterious black dagger at her side.
But when olivias boyfriend betrays her, intentions get very clear to her that he wants her dagger, series of actions set into motion of phenomenon that Olivia never thought would happen. Time travel. Soon find herself in third century Rome. The book is about the story of Olivia trying to get back into a time. Do the ancient scriptures on her dagger hold the key? Can she trust Roman with her secrets? And can she fight her enemies and protect her heart at the same time?
The writing in this book is beautiful and lyrical, and the world-building is intricate and well thought out. The characters are well developed and complex, with their own motivations and desires. Olivia is a strong and determined protagonist who is not afraid to stand up for herself, even in the face of danger. Roman, on the other hand, is a complex character who is dealing with his own demons and struggles to keep his kingdom safe. Their chemistry is electric, and their romance is both steamy and heartfelt.
One of the standout elements of this book is the Time travel. The timeborne in this world have their own unique abilities, and the author does an excellent job of explaining how they work. The descriptions of the travel are vivid and imaginative, making the reader feel like they are really experiencing it themselves.
