Rating - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Holy Moly. Oh oh oh.

Two childhood friends. One detective. One killer. One shared secret.

When the books starts with ," The boy loved his parents more than anything else in the world, so he had to kill them ". Years ago something was set in motion, and now the evil has risen from the dead. There was this one chapter point of view killer,I felt was so intense, quoting from the chapter, "the sins soaked in soul everyday like water in sponge" I mean you get the point.

DI Ray Drake is investigating a triple murder but somehow knows in his gut that his past has come back to Haunt him, because the person who died was his friend Kenny from the children's home when he was young. 30 years back, Connor Laird, came from now where to the Longacre Children's Home, an instantly become villain of everyone's life. Now, 30 years later, someone is killing everyone who knew Connor Laird. Everyone has secrets, even DI Drake, now he is in a race against time to get to the killer before he gets to him.

Well my feelings about this book are OH MY GOD. It's been a very long time since I had a book with a crazy plot twist, and then I found this gem, sometimes it make me feel that there are some books of there that are so underrated, and definitely need to be more hype on the Reading community. This one specific read was intense, had the tension build up till the very end, and so much of suspense. Mark Hill has written a book having the potential to blow your mind like a nuclear bomb, a very very well written crime story with a very clever plot twist. You know the moment when you understand the meaning of the title of the book, I felt my heart sink. I feel like I cannot express how much obsessed I am with DI Drake.

Written and dual point of view, author is very well connected the dots from the past the present giving the exact amount of information needed to understand the plot and not to reveal the plot twist. In this particular read you will be forced to think who is bad and who is right, like the circle of life, very well portrayed good inside the evil, and evil inside the good. There is no Black or white in the book, everything is a different shade of grey.

The story shift and tills at a very alarming pace, so I would advise you if you decide to pick up this book, be prepared to want to keep everything aside and not stop till the end of the book. Definitely one of my favourite books this year, and a permanent member of my all time favourites. I am so looking forward for more of DI Drake, and also will be picking up other titles by the same author.Highly highly highly recommend.
